From Cameron

I saved Chrissy’s life this week.

Wednesday night, about 9pm, I’d just got home from kung fu. Sitting on the lounge, eating some dinner, Chrissy was in the kitchen, making her lunch for Thursday. I’m telling a story about something that happened at training, when, suddenly, she starts making a strange noise and waving her hands in the air, pointing at her throat. I leap up and she comes towards me, pointing at her back and making “hit me!” hand gestures. I hit her. Again. Again. She mimes the Heimlich. I perform it. Poorly. She still can’t breathe. I keep at it. Thump her back. Squeeze her stomach. Over and over. Twenty seconds go past. Thirty. I’m thinking “is she going to die because I never took a first aid course!? “

Finally – she gasps. She can breathe. The small piece of raw cauliflower she had been munching on had been dislodged.

The second time in her life she nearly choked on something. The first time, her mother saved her life. This time, it was my turn.

That puts the world’s drama into perspective.

She’d just put Fox to bed and he’d said what he always says: “Stay Safe, Don’t Die”.

We haven’t told him how close she came. Don’t want to add to his anxieties.

My Thought For The Day

“Words had to change their ordinary meaning and to take that which was now given them. Reckless audacity came to be considered the courage of a loyal supporter; prudent [became] hesitation, specious [became] cowardice … ability to see all sides of a question [an] incapacity to act on any … The advocate of extreme measures was always trustworthy; his opponent a man to be suspected … until even blood became a weaker tie than party … and the confidence of their members in each other rested less on any religious sanction than upon complicity in crime.”
